Oct 23
The Irrawaddy Dolphin, two species of Orcaella brevirostris and Orcaella heinsohni can be found in the Irrawaddy River about 70km north of Mandalay, near Myae Zun village. Local cast-net fishermen have developed mutually beneficial cooperative fishing techniques with the Irrawaddy Dolphins, as a turist attraction. Eight years ago scientists counted 59 dolphins in the Irrawaddy River, but unfortunately the population has dwindled to about 37.
